The scent has a reputation as an aphrodisiac, and is said to attract the opposite sex. It is slightly musty, pungent smell is unmistakable and pervasive, and it was often used as a fixative for other scents, or to mask more objectionable scents.

It is slightly musty, pungent smell is unmistakable and pervasive, and it was often used as a fixative for other scents, or to mask more objectionable scents.
Sample Incense Recipes
1. Autumn Incense
Mix together:
- 2 parts California white sage
- 1 part patchouli
- 1 part dried oak leaf
- 1 part lavender
- a pinch of copal if desired
Thoroughly grind all dry ingredients in a mortar and pestle.
Add liquid ingredients and mix thoroughly
Burn over smoldering charcoal.
2. Divination Incense
Mix together:
- 1 part patchouli
- 1 part cinnamon
- 1 part juniper
- 1 part sandalwood
- A few drops of clove oil
Thoroughly grind all ingredients in a mortar and pestle.
Burn over smoldering charcoal.
3. Spring Sabbat Incense
Mix together:
- 3 parts frankincense
- 2 parts sandalwood
- 1 part benzoin
- 1 part cinnamon
- a few drops patchouly oil
Thoroughly grind all dry ingredients in a mortar and pestle.
Mix in patchouli oil
Burn over smoldering charcoal.
4. True Love Incense
Mix together:
- 1 part cinnamon
- 1 part orris root
- a few drops patchouly oil
Thoroughly grind all dry ingredients in a mortar and pestle.
Mix in patchouli oil
Burn over smoldering charcoal.
